Southern Belles love God, sweet tea, and the SEC!

In Honor of Homecoming this week I felt like sharing a few thoughts on football and the traditions of the SEC.  A properly educated southern belle knows that football in the southeast is a formal affair.  If you research tailgating in general you might find pictures of fans in team jerseys or tee shirts, lawn chairs set up around the bed of a truck or the back of an SUV, a cooler of beer, and a pop up grill.  Here in the southeast, we have taken the idea of tailgating and infused it with southern class and charm.  Instead of sitting outside in the blistering sun all day we set up large tents to provide shade and keep the glare off the sixty inch flat screens.  Elegant chandeliers are hung from highest points in the tent.  Tables are set up and covered in linens corresponding to our team’s colors and adorned with flowers and candles.  O’, and the food!  It’s not just a hotdog in the parking lot, we dine!  I’m talking about dips galore, vegetable trays, fruit spreads (chocolate dipped strawberries – yum!), pasta salads, hot wings, bbq, burgers, steak and enough alcohol to stock a bar. When attending such an event you can’t just show up in your jeans and a tee shirt – no way!  Proper SEC dressing ranges from suits and formal dresses to khakis and boutique dresses.

Happy Homecoming 2014!  #GoDawgs
